I am thrilled to share with you that my oil painting “Out of Snacks,” is being featured in the upcoming Rockport Art Association & Museum National Juried Show of 2025. I started painting this scene in 2014 and sold thirty reproductions of the first in series. I am honored to be selected among 150 artists by juror Cindy Baron, as this is my third original piece.
I love the quiet off season and painting outdoors as well as inside my studio! The dramatic shadow on the propane tank is what first caught my attention. I felt like Ed Hopper was with me saying, “hey, let’s paint that!” In the Autumn afternoon, the entire shack is bathed in the golden light unique to Cape Ann. The cool shadows lend drama and contrast. Long gone are the crowds of beach goers and familiar sounds of children and adults playing. The parking lot is empty. Light winds and solitude abound. A few surfers show up, one by one, to do their singular sport. I love this subject and somber space!
It’s heartwarming to me as an artist that this image continues to bring back so many memories of Good Harbor Beach. If I were a documentarist I would take pride in airing all the personal stories I've heard from collectors and viewers.
