I pondered the question for a good amount of time: If Edward Hopper was still hanging out in Gloucester...what would he paint? When I saw the propane tank in late afternoon shadow at the snack bar on Good Harbor Beach...I settled on that! In the Autumn, this old shack is bathed in the golden light and dramatic cool shadows. Long gone are the crowds of beach goers and familiar sounds of children and adults playing. The parking lot is empty. Light winds and solitude abounds. A few surfers show up one by one to do their singular sport. I think Ed would have loved the hell out of this subject and somber space.
